Adelaide’s Best Cycling Tracks

If you like your lycra, you’ll love these bike tracks in Adelaide.

Perfect for cyclist enthusiasts and novices, there are plenty of popular bike trails around Adelaide offering a unique way to explore the city. So, whether you’re looking for a new route to keep up your fitness, or just a leisurely pedal to your Sunday morning brunch, we’ve got you covered with these bike tracks in Adelaide.

River Torrens Linear Park Trail

The River Torrens Linear Park Trail is a 35km circuit running from West Beach to the CBD to Athelstone. With its well-maintained path and mostly flat terrain, it’s a popular choice for walkers, dog walkers, joggers, and cyclists alike.

We recommend starting at Elder Park in the city and riding the 11km to Henley Beach for a picnic on the sand and a sneaky dip to cool down. Or if you don’t have room on your bike to BYO, Henley Square offers some great cafés.

This Adelaide cycling track is perfect for: Families, and people who like to ride alongside their dog.

The Old Freeway, Mount Lofty, Adelaide Hills

This one is a little tougher. If you’re a comfortable road cyclist looking to build up a sweat, The Old Freeway’s average 4.7% gradient will see to it your quads are burning by the end.

Starting at the Glen Osmond Tollgate in Mount Osmond, it starts as a sealed bike track and then becoming a bike lane – but the car traffic is generally light. It’s a challenging 9km to the summit of Mount Lofty, but the panoramic views of the city are worth it.

Coast to Vines Rail Trail, Fleurieu Peninsula

Bike ride with a side of wine, anyone?

There’s no better way to explore the McLaren Vale wine region than on two wheels. This scenic 37km trail winds along Marino’s coastal cliffs past beautiful vineyards and transforming landscapes. It begins at the coastal outer suburb of Marino and takes you along the former rail corridor to Willunga.

If you’re in the mood to wet your whistle, you can stop off at one of many cellar doors you can find along the way.

Encounter Bikeway, Fleurieu Peninsula

About an hour’s drive south of the CBD, this family-friendly bikeway is perfect for the little ones. It also gives you a chance to break up your ride with a coffee at one of the many cafés along the way.

Suitable for all ages and levels of fitness, the Encounter Bikeway provides beautiful coastal views, and is around 30km-return (but feel free to cut it short for tired little legs).
