If you re-decorated your abode late last year featuring copper and sleek white design, you may wish to stop reading.
The design trends of 2017 are well underway and with a focus on creating an ambience of warmth, comfort and elegance, it’s a sharp contrast to the past few years’ bold approach to minimalist, industrial finishes.
We’ve taken our cue from some of the world’s best Interior Designers to bring you a short list of what to look for this year when it comes to creating a home & spaces you will love to escape to.
Colour
It’s time to move away from the ‘monochrome madness’ and bring some gorgeous colours back into our lives. Tones that set the mood of the household inciting happiness, comfort and relaxation with a touch of eclecticism for just a little fun.
We’re set to see soft watercolours and pastels combine with earthy tones to offset minimalist, Scandinavian styling; powdery pink, terracotta, sand, ochre, cinnamon, rust, olive green will be ones to look out for.
Rich jewel tones will also be back and more beautiful than ever. Sapphire, Garnet, Amethyst, Citrine and Emerald greens are just the beginning.
Texture & Pattern
The elegance and cosiness of velvet pairs effortlessly with the rich jewel tones making their way into home décor this year. What isn’t there to love about sinking into a plush velvet couch with a smooth McLaren Vale Shiraz in hand?
Whether it’s natural linens, chunky woollen weaves or soft sheers, the use of these textures will instantly soften any space.
When it comes to patterns, gone are the pineapples and chevrons of 2016. This year is a nod to yester-year with a reinvigoration of vintage, Art Deco designs and large scale botanicals.
Materials
There’s no easy way to say this… Brass is the new Copper.
While Copper metal will always be a classic in design, the oversaturation of the market in 2016 has already delivered a move away from this finish towards Brass and Rose Gold.
Those natural, earthy tones will step forward to be the design heroes this year. Expect rough exposed brick and matte terracotta to make an appearance and once again add exquisite depth to the minimalist, all white trends of former years.
